October 2016 – Jane Hall

At the October meeting we held our Branch General Meeting – with the efficiency expected on such occasions we rattled through the official business in short order and then sat back enthralled as Jane Hall took centre stage.

Jane talked through her embroidered butterflies and quickly engaged with us by sending round samples of the various fabrics (silk habotai, chiffon and organza) that she uses for her base fabric, a few reels of thread (22 ply silk!), the very fine wire (less than the width of human hair and her very special handmade needles (£10 each, incredibly tiny, some of us couldn’t even see the eye of the needle!!)

It was a fascinating talk, backed up with beautiful photographs – the large screen seemed  almost to emphasise the tiny stitches she makes. Her work is exquisite and her genuine love of butterflies, and indeed, the natural world in general, came shining through.
