At the March meeting our speaker was Helen Sill who shared with us her journey in textiles – from making voluminous dungarees in her teens to becoming a Guild Scholar in 2015!
It was a fascinating story and indeed a lesson in tenacity – throughout her various incarnations Helen never lost her love of textiles and her fascination with art and embroidery. She continued to engage with the world of embroidery and is currently completing a fine art degree at Chichester University and is advising the Guild in connection with its engagement in education and young embroiderers. She has also been involved with a community art project in Petersfield following the archeological excavations on Petersfield Heath.
Many of our members enjoyed chatting with Helen after her talk and an opportunity to look at her sketchbooks and her work in very close proximity. A very interesting and stimulating afternoon.
